The Find-Art-Directives Art Therapist's Resource has been created for the use of art therapists, creative arts therapists, and other mental health professionals that use art as a therapeutic part of their practice.
The intent of this web site is to aid the professional in finding appropriate art directives based on their client's demographics, the setting of therapy, the theme of sessions, and other classifications. It is not a substitute for professional judgment of the therapist. Neither is it intended to be a substitute for adequate training in art therapy. The description for each directive is intended as a starting point for the therapist, and not a substitute for training. Please be sure that you have adequate training and credentials before attempting any art directives with your clients.
Art can be an enjoyable and valuable addition to counseling; however, it should be considered a specialized skill requiring some training.
By requesting and using access to this database, you are asserting that you will use the information in an appropriate, ethical, and professional manner.
Please refer to the following resources to determine if you need additional training to ethically use art directives in your practice as a professional therapist.
- International Art Therapy Organization
- American Art Therapy Association
- National Coalition of Creative Arts Therapies Associations
Please Note: We have made every effort to gain permission and credit authors whose art directives appear here. If you notice an error, please email carol@dreaminguplife.com and we will investigate and do our best to correct it.
Sincerely,
Carol McCullough-Dieter
